From Pages to Planting: Amara supports  Greenscape of Jacksonville to Grow a Greener Future

While Amara’s story began inside the walls of Jacksonville’s African American museums, her next adventure reaches beyond buildings into the soil itself.

Diaspora Whispers Books is proud to announce the support of Greenscape in Jacksonville, Florida a local nonprofit committed to preserving, protecting, and planting trees across the city. Each month, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Greenscape of Jacksonville to help restore ecosystems and educate communities on the importance of environmental stewardship

Why Trees? Why Now?

In a time when climate concerns loom large and green spaces shrink, planting trees might feel like a small gesture. But in truth, it’s a powerful act of legacy.
Trees clean the air, reduce temperatures, prevent flooding, and even improve mental well-being. For kids like Amara, curious, courageous, and filled with questions,  trees are also powerful teachers. They teach patience, resilience, and connection to the world around us.
And that’s where Greenscape of Jacksonville comes in. Since 1975, this organization has planted over 350,000 trees, making neighborhoods greener and communities stronger. Their mission aligns perfectly with Amara’s inspiring young minds to care, act, and grow.

Amara Honors The Beach Lady’s Legacy

When you open Amara’s Adventures, you meet more than a brave little girl, you meet a movement. Amara’s curiosity takes her to museums, where she uncovers stories of overlooked heroes like The Beach Lady, the legendary MaVynee Betsch, who dedicated her life to protecting American Beach from development and environmental destruction.
MaVynee, with her iconic six-foot dreadlocks and booming voice, once gave away her million-dollar inheritance to save this sacred land. Her love for nature wasn’t just symbolic, it was active, fierce, and unwavering.
Amara’s new commitment to tree planting through Greenscape is a natural extension of The Beach Lady’s work. Just like MaVynee protected a Florida shoreline, Amara’s support of Greenscape’s mission helps protect us all.

Growing Literacy and the Land — One Book at a Time

Every copy of Amara’s Adventures sold is more than just a book. It’s:
  • A new tree planted through Greenscape of Jacksonville
  • A story placed into the hands of a young reader
  • A chance to connect historical storytelling with environmental action
The book was always meant to be more than a story. It’s a spark,  one that lights the imagination and now also grows a greener planet.
And if you've already read the book, you know this isn’t Amara’s first mission. She's already inspired donations during Literacy Month and led curious minds across museums and libraries from Florida to Virginia.  But this latest initiative takes things to a new level because this time, her adventure takes root in real life.

Environmental justice and literacy might seem like two separate causes, but in Amara’s world, they’re deeply connected. Protecting nature honors the past and shapes the future.
So next time you crack open Amara’s Adventures, take a moment to imagine the real trees it’s helping plant. Picture a child reading under their shade. Hear the rustle of the leaves, like The Beach Lady whispering, “Protect what matters.”
